Rock Rose

Considered to be one of the original new generation of craft distilleries in Scotland’s growing Scottish Gin sector, Dunnet Bay Distillery is home to Rock Rose gin and Holy Grass vodka. As the UK’s most northerly mainland distillery, Dunnet Bay Distillery is situated in the picturesque coastal region of Caithness on the North coast of Scotland in the village of Dunnet Bay.

Dunnet Bay Distillers approached us to develop veneers for their limited edition cask gin. We were tasked with producing packaging that distinguished this special edition from the original gin and vodka whilst still maintaining Rock Roses’ famous coastal identity and charm.

Building on the iconic ceramic bottle we wanted to bring in the coastal influences that make the brand. If we were going to put the bottle in an outer package we didn’t want to lose the feeling of the original. It had to be tactile, true to the brand while adding something new to the brand experience.

Using a different wood to represent each of the cask flavours we developed a veneer to replicate the original barrels to portray a playful nod to their creation.

Each is closed with a hand-wrapped leather thong and button closure. We branded each bottle box with laser engraving to keep the natural finish. We enclosed the bottle tops in hessian squares to replicate traditional barrel bungs.
